Rose-Colored Glasses
The invisible dragon glided down from the clear blue skies over Santa Fe. He spotted the sparkling bright blonde hair of the invisible dragon tamer, and lit on the ground not far from her. "I like your sunglasses, dragon tamer. Are they pink?"
She tilted her head sideways as she replied. "No. They're Rose-Colored Glasses.” She took them off, and held them up in front of his eyes. "The world looks all rosy through them. Then, when you remove them…" She moved them away, returning him to a clear view. "…the world looks normal again."
The invisible dragon was clearly amused. "What do I look like through Rose-Colored Glasses?"
She put them on again. "You look exactly the same. You're invisible."
He was tickled pink. "I guess my world was already all rosy and filled with happiness to begin with."
The dragon tamer didn't know much about this invisible dragon. "What is your world like?"
He craned his neck down. "Climb on my shoulders. I'll take you flying."
So she scrambled onto his shoulders, and with a beat of his enormous invisible wings they rose into the air. As they soared over beautiful forests, and mountains, and oceans, and deserts, she called out to him. "It's so beautiful."
He called back to her. "People talk about 'the real world', about violence, poverty, sickness, weakness, fear, hatred, despair, humiliation, and loss. In reality, that's not a big part of the universe. Most of the universe is pure, awesome beauty. That's 'the real world'".
He flew her back to Santa Fe, and she dismounted. "The 'real world' is rosy. I see that."
He was ready to return to his adventures, and began to lift off again. "Yes, dragon tamer, the world is a beautiful place." He hovered for a moment. "And just so you know, I don't need to be tamed…"
He sped off before she could answer, and grinned to himself that he had had the last word.
