The dragon flew over the house near a mountain, by a river, not far from a city. He was about to call to Ryn and take him on a magical flight to some exotic destination, when he saw his mother searching the skies. He stopped and hovered, and she seemed to realize he was there. She called out. "Dragon! I know you are up there! This is for you... From the mother to the dragon..."

Water baby
Shivering with joy
And the cool of the afternoon air,
Chasing the splashes
Of the water dragon,
You were born to swim
And jump and splash
And fly.
One day you will grow up
And turn into someone I don't know yet.
So much potential to mould, shape, nurture, destroy...
It's scary. And exhilarating. And frightening.
But for now, you teach me patience
And the joy of splashing.
(For Ryn, 10 months old)
The dragon was entranced listening to the poem. He began to glide downwards. Perhaps Franki would like to fly somewhere with her son today?
Jena appeared next to him as he made a wide arc and prepared to land. "Dragon, do you remember what the ancient ones told you? Inspire the soul of the child, not the parents..."
The dragon pulled up short suddenly. He had forgotten the ancient wisdom. "But, she wrote such beautiful words..."
Jena put on a very serious 'listen-to-me-and-let's-get-this-straight' face. "...about her son. Beautiful words about her beautiful son."
They hovered a moment, and then Franki spoke. "Well, if you are flying around up there dragon, I hope you heard that."
The dragon began to rise in the air, slowly. "I want to tell her I heard it, and how wonderful it felt to listen to..."
Jena the fairy godmother had a twinkle in her eye. "You and I are mystical beings, good dragon. We know we can communicate without words. When Franki feels that mystical feeling to write again, you'll know your appreciation has reached her. It may take a cycle of the moon, or more, but that's how these things grow..."
Many miles above, the ancient ones watched with great curiosity. Melchior turned to Tryst and spoke. "Remember when we used to fraternize with the people? We should do that more..."
