The invisible dragon soared over Santa Fe, wondering if he could find the invisible dragon tamer again. Then he sensed a feeling, that seemed to sparkle bright in his emotions, leading him out of town toward the desert and the mountains.
He followed the feeling in his heart, and found the dragon tamer wandering in the shadow of a mountain range. Her blonde locks truly did sparkle bright in the sun. He landed quietly, not far from where she trod, unsure how to greet her.
She greeted him first. "Welcome again, good friend. I see you so clearly, in my heart and in my dreams."
The dragon dispensed with chit-chat, and talked openly with her. "During my adventures, I thought often and long about our last meeting, dragon tamer. I feel… You are unique to me." She smiled and cocked her head, but said nothing. "Who are you? Tell me more."
She continued to walk, but circled him, speaking directly at his invisible, questioning face. "I am happy because I choose to be happy. I have known sorrow, and struggled with difficult experiences. I love freely because I have found that doing so is quite liberating, not because I have never been hurt."
The dragon's curiosity was not satisfied. He flitted a moment to face her better. "But …what do you mean when you say you are a dragon tamer?"
She gave an answer that only mystified him more. "I am who and what I am because I don’t know how to be anyone or anything else."
The invisible dragon was completely NOT satisfied with her avoiding his question. He shifted hesitantly from talon to talon in the dust, not knowing how to elicit the answer he craved. "Dragon tamer, what is your purpose in taming a dragon? I don't feel I need to be tamed…"
She continued to gaze at his invisible, slightly puzzled face. "Choose to be your most authentic self, whatever that might mean, today and every day. That is where true happiness can always be found."
The dragon was unsure what this answer meant. His authentic self? "I am, I always was, and I always will be an invisible dragon. I chose invisibility, and fly alone…"
She interrupted him. "Just Do You. If you are a serious dragon, be serious. If you’re bodacious on the inside, be bodacious on the outside. If you’re an introvert, act like an introvert. And, if you do not know what it would mean to Just Do You, spend a little time thinking about it . . . or, maybe, spend a lot of time thinking about it."
The dragon had never known anyone to encourage him this way. "You are unique to me, good friend."
The shared a peaceful, silent moment. The dragon looked around at the mix of dusty ground and plant life living within shadow's reach of the mountain range.
Then the invisible dragon tamer asked him a very important question. "May I give you something?"
The dragon wondered what it was. "You want to give me a gift?"
She smiled at him until the desert seemed to sparkle. "Yes. A hug." She strode closer to him, and wrapped her arms around his enormous invisible neck.
Dragons don't hug. They don't have arms, and hugging needs arms. So he did the best he could. He curled his wings around, and carefully wrapped the dragon tamer inside them. She disappeared completely for a moment, shrouded by his invisibility.
He felt her step away, so he opened his wings. She reappeared in the dusty desert landscape. "Will you come to visit me again soon, my friend."
The invisible dragon knew he would. "Yes."
As he beat his wings to lift off, a thought came to him.
"I have to come back. She didn't answer my question..."
