Sun and Moon, light and dark

"Do you have room in your 3 bags for David, Ryn and me?" Franki joked as they arrived at Brisbane airport. "I wish I did." Peter was flying back to Europe, the place they all descended from at some time in their ancestry. "I've had such a wonderful time with you."
They said their goodbyes with hugs, and words that promised more good times together in future.

...

Peter sat on a rooftop in Vienna, a few hundred meters from where his father lived as a boy. He could see the invisible dragon doing lazy circles in the blue summer sky around the spire of Stephansdom. Peter could see the dragon with his heart, and his dreams. Like he sometimes felt the presence of his father, who had passed away long ago.
He heard a sound a little bit like the sound of a melody on a piano, and heard the dragon respond. "Jena, fairy godmother, what can I do?" More sounds like a piano, and another response. "Really? Fly around the world and..." A little more music. "Yes, of course. I will."
The dragon flew toward the rooftop where Peter sat. Without a word, Peter waved him on to whatever task Jena had set for him. The dragon flew on, many, many miles, returning to the house of Ryn, near a mountain, close to a city by a river. He hovered above the house, waiting until the family slept. The dragon called to the boy. "Ryn..." A smile appeared on the boy's face, and again his soul rose like a shining light above the roof. "Bring your parents." From the space between Franki and David a sphere of light and dark appeared, and floated upwards to above the roof where the dragon hovered.
David and Franki began to dream, similar dreams. They dreamed of the dragon their friend had written stories about. They dreamed the dragon was on their roof, and they were climbing onto his invisible shoulders, to fly who knows where. Franki had her arms around Ryn, and David had his arms around both of them.
The dragon flew up into the blue sky.
The earth below them was beautiful. As they flew west over the vast emptiness of the Pacific, the ocean of peace, the dragon spoke. "Do you see the Sun? Do you see its light? Do you see how it shines, lighting up the beautiful earth?" Franki and David squinted as they looked into the Sun, seeing the true source, the true ancestor.

They were flying toward dusk, and the light of the sun began to fade. They could see the moon, curved like a crescent. It was rising in a sky filling with stars that twinkled with a fascinating power. "Do you see the moon? Like the stars, we see it clearly because the Sun's light is gone." David's arms tightened gently around Franki as they flew, both hearts enthralled by sharing such a romantic flight. "Do you see how the light and the dark fills us with love?"
They flew on, over the Americas, and onward beyond the Atlantic, the ocean of legendary greatness. They crossed the coast of France, and flew past the Eiffel tower on their way to Vienna.

...

Peter returned to the rooftop the next day, and waited for his friends. His heart and his dreams filled with visions others never seemed to be able to see ...The enormous invisible dragon was hovering low over the rooftop, and Peter called out to his friends. "I told you I had no room in my suitcases for you, but the dragon has shoulders big enough for three."
David called back. "Is this how you get around the world? On the back of an invisible dragon?"Peter didn't answer the question. "Time in our dreams and in our souls is a mystery. Moments can last forever. I linger in places like this because I feel my father is with me here. And now you are here, with your son."
Franki was awestruck by the adventure. "The flight here was incredible. Through day and night, and everything the dragon told us. Do you get all you deep ideas from him?" Peter laughed. "The international man of mystery has been exposed...! You still have so much more to see."
She was so caught up in the feeling. "Really?" Peter waved to them. "I'll see you very soon. Fly on, good dragon."
Ryn could feel all of his parents dreams, like they were real.

The dragon lifted above the elegant imperial city. He hovered over beautiful sights, then flew them home via 'the scenic route.' They flew north to Prague, then along the Danube over Budapest and Belgrade.

Left across the Adriatic to Florence, then south to Athens to view the Acropolis, and further south to the Pyramids in Egypt. A left turn east took them over India to see the Taj Mahal at dusk. Finally the dragon took them over the Indian ocean, and across the vast emptiness of the great southern land.

The dragon hovered over the roof of the house of Ryn, near a mountain, close to a city by a river. He hovered above the house, low enough for the family to dismount.
Dreams. They feel real, only when you don't have enough time to stop and think. Franki and David began to wake up. It was a brand new day, and the Sun was rising.
Ryn was lying between them, he could see the light around them. He felt the dark, familiar feel of their bodies. He loved their smell, their touch, every sense of them. And he loved their dreams, of actors and stages and films and music ...and flying around the world by the light of the Sun and Moon.
