The long journey

The invisible dragon lay alone, asleep under the stars. He felt a funny feeling, like someone was calling him, but he didn't know who. He saw a little glow appear not far in front of him. "Jena, is that you? Were you calling me?" He voice reponded like a melody on a piano. "Not me, great dragon. That's Ryn. He can't speak yet, but his soul remembers your flights together, and he needs you to fly him somewhere."
The dragon was puzzled. "This feeling I have comes from Ryn?" Jena spoke like a teacher. "I am a fairy godmother. I know how a godchild communicates with their godparents. A very mystical thing..." The dragon felt a little confused and unsure. After his summoning to the Ancient Ones, he wanted to make sure he stuck to their ways. "What do I do, precious fairy godmother?" She beamed, knowing the dragon was learning from his relationship with the boy child. "Go to him, he will show you the way..."

The dragon flew into the night, following his intuition to where Ryn lay sleeping with his mother. He hovered over them, then called out to the boy's soul. "I'm here, little Ryn. You called me..." A barely discernable light rose out of his tiny body, and floated up to the dragon. The dragon craned his neck down, and felt Ryn cling to his enormous invisible neck. A strong feeling overcame the dragon as he felt Ryn coaxing him wordlessly to fly out of the city, and into the countryside. They flew into the night, to a place far from the house of Ryn and his parents.

Ryn's father lay alone, asleep under the stars. He felt a funny feeling, like his beautiful son was nearby. He looked up at the starry sky, and thought he saw a glow in the sky above him. His bicycle lay close by, and he remembered the long journey he had ridden that day, testified by the soreness in his muscles. He looked forward to the sunrise, and continuing his journey. He yawned, and again felt the funny feeling, as though Ryn was near. He rolled over and slept, dreaming of his beautiful wife and their wonderous son.
The dragon looked down, and saw Ryn's father below, sleeping close to his bicycle. They hovered over the sleeping man for a few minutes, then the dragon landed in the grass nearby. He waited respectfully while Ryn soul drifted into his father's thoughts and dreams. Time seemed to stop... and unexpectedly start again when Ryn returned to the dragon's enormous invisible shoulders. They flew home, and the dragon watched as the faint glow of Ryn's soul floated down, disappearing into his tiny body.

The dragon flew away, deep in thought, and returned to his resting place as the sun began to rise. He hardly noticed Jena appear nearby. "You seem lost in your thoughts, my enormous friend." Her voice chimed musically. "Would you like to share some of what you are thinking with me?"

The dragon could not easily voice what was in his mind. "My times with Ryn, everything with him is something new for me... Where are we going? Where should I take him?" The fairy godmother offered some simple wisdom. "Building a relationship with a child is like a long journey. Forget the destination. Each day go forward, rest in the night, and then continue again the next day."
