Walkabout

After a night-flight over the Great Southern land, the invisible dragon felt an urgent need to return and speak with his father. He beat his wings hard, and soared around the blue earth, returning to the castle of the magician.

He found his father basking in the northern sunshine. "Welcome home, good son. A perfect time for you to return. Spring is here, the days are now longer than the nights."

The dragon nuzzled his father in greeting, but was preoccupied with emotions he did not understand. "My flights over the Great Southern land bring me strange feelings. A desire for solitude, and wandering…"

His father knew what this signified. "You are coming of age, my boy. The ancient people of the Great Southern land respond to this through Walkabout."

The invisible dragon felt a strange conflict within. A desire to stay here with his beloved father was in combat with his new, unfamiliar wanderlust. "What shall I do?"

The magician was pensive for a moment, remembering his own coming of age. "Return to the Great Southern land. Have no destination. Return to me, when the time is right. I will not call to you until you return."

The invisible dragon understood, and nodded. He vanished for several months, later returning to his father.

The story of his walkabout must never be shared. A sacred journey, through the mystery of the dreamtime.
